Willard W. Brown International Business Leadership Webinar Series featuring a book discussion of Sherif Kamel’s, Dean, AUC School of Business, newly published book “Leading Change in Challenging Times: Lessons of Disruption and Innovation from Egypt- Thoughts, Observations and Reflections.”

The book includes a variety of perspectives on being the founding dean of AUC School of Business and leading change while addressing a diverse portfolio of aspects including autonomy; strategy formulation, planning and execution; the invaluable role of human capital; development funds and their impact on creating a culture of innovation, creativity and discovery; institutional development as an organizational edge; the continuing engagement of the alumni network; the journey of continuous improvement, research endeavors, the influence of an environment enriched by international faculty and students and the complementing role of executive education and the creation of a mindset driven by lifelong learning.
Sherif Kamel is a professor of management and dean of the School of Business at The American University in Cairo. He is the former president of the board of governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and was an independent board member of the Egyptian American Enterprise Fund and the Commercial International Bank. His research and teaching interests include digital transformation, IT transfer to emerging economies, decision support systems, and entrepreneurship. His work is broadly published in information systems and management journals and books. He is the author of the Nile View article series.
Soumitra Dutta is Dean Elect, Said School of Business at the University of Oxford. He is also a Professor of Management and the former founding dean of the SC Johnson College of Business at Cornell University, New York. He is the founder of the Global Innovation Index, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization and was the co-founder of the Global Information Technology Report, published by the World Economic Forum – two influential reports in technology and innovation policy. He is also the co-founder and President of Portulans Institute, a non-partisan nonprofit research and education institution based in Washington DC.
Dutta is on the global board of Dassault Systemes. He is also a member of the Shareholder Council of Chicago-based healthcare consulting company ZS Associates. In addition, he is a member of the advisory boards of several business schools including ESADE and HEC Montreal. He has co-founded two firms, including Fisheye Analytics, which was acquired by the WPP group and Igesia, a digital learning and edutech company. He is currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Global Business School Network, a Washington DC based not-for- profit organization focused on improving management capacity in emerging markets.
