How can we build a clean energy plant to power an eco-friendly resort?

Would you like to apply your abilities to build a renewable energy unit for eco-lodges in Tunisia? In collaboration with  SwitchMed - Switchers Eco-Innovation Programme , we are looking for talented engineers to build a green energy unit to run eco-lodges efficiently. Submit your innovative idea to manufacture a clean energy unit for a chance to win 1,250 euros, 3,750 euros of quick support services, and the chance to win a voucher worth 10,000 euros from services for the best idea presented by the SwitchMed

Project background

The SwitchMed initiative aims to achieve a circular economy in the southern Mediterranean by changing how goods and services are produced and consumed. Accordingly, the program provides tools and services directly to the private sector, supports the enabling policy environment, and facilitates information exchange between partners and key stakeholders.

Recent years have witnessed a global shift towards renewable energy. It is gaining importance as a way to combat climate change. Renewable energy includes large-scale sources, such as wind and sunlight. They have versatile applications, from small residential rooftop systems to utility-scale power generation facilities.

Ecolodges are one way to preserve the environment and explore new tourism trends as they use organic or recyclable materials, efficient waste management, and energy systems. To enhance these properties, they have to build their own power units, which may not be affordable for smaller lodges. In Tunisia, they have abundant sunlight all year round, but solar panels are expensive, which hinders their progress and effectiveness.

The challenge

Design and build enough solar energy to power an eight-room eco-lodge and a restaurant.

The proposed solution must adhere to the following methodology:

  • Describe your idea and outline your approach: Provide a comprehensive description of your idea while clearly stating your approach.

  • Durability: Make sure your solution is designed to last and be relied upon over the long term.

  • Clearly define your expected budget and implementation timeline: Provide a transparent analysis of your expected budget and a specific timeline for implementation, in the event you are awarded a future contract.

  • Define the metrics for your idea's success and explain the rationale for your approach: Clearly define the metrics that will measure the success of your idea. Also explain why your chosen approach is the most appropriate to achieve these metrics.

  • Low-cost, low-maintenance approach: Emphasize a strategy that not only keeps costs to a minimum, but also requires minimal maintenance over time.

How to participate?

  1. Submit  the completed application form  before the deadline of 9/11/2023 at 11:59 (GMT+2). This idea should include a detailed proposal uploaded explaining how the specified criteria will be met.

  2. Shortlisted candidates will be selected based on the innovativeness of their solutions and will be invited to present their ideas in a competitive online pitch.

  3. The best winning idea will be selected by a SwitchMed representative.

Bonus and conditions 

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to present their ideas in an online competitive pitch attended by SwitchMed representatives and the Yomken.com team.

A total reward of €1,250 for a quick support service worth €3,750 and a chance to win a voucher worth €10,000 in services provided by the SwitchMed initiative - the Switchers Eco-Innovation program and the Yomken.com platform for the best winning solution.

According to the terms and conditions of Yomken.com, in the event that intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator must include the minimum details required to judge the validity of the technology and the feasibility of the solution, without full technical specifications.
