Save the Children organization is implementing a project related to climate change in Egypt, and we are interested in working closely with young people In order to develop your ideas within the activities of (Youth Innovation lab) this year on climate change and sustainability, on water resource management and water scarcity in Egypt.

Youth Innovation lab will help you crystallize and develop your ideas and build on them to become applicable. Provide a financial grant for the most innovative youth groups in reaching sustainable and effective solutions that can be disseminated to face the challenges of climate change and water scarcity in Egypt, to support the implementation of their idea.

What is youth innovation lab?

It is a training program from Save the Children organization to create a space for young people of both sexes in Egypt to develop innovative solutions and effective, starting with the challenges of climate change in Egypt, with which we decided to start in some coastal governorates. the northern and delta regions, because they are relatively more vulnerable to climate change on the coast and the environment, which raises more serious issues related to resources and the daily lives of young people today and in the future, and in particular we have identified water scarcity as a challenge we are working towards this year.

What opportunity does the Youth Innovation lab initiative provide?

  • A journey of learning, developing ideas and skills, and sharing experiences - including a five-day camp in Alexandria And guidelines for the idea of ​​each group of specialists and experts in the same field.

  • Each youth group will be allowed to include 3 to 6 participants over the course of the program. Transportation and accommodation allowances will be provided for the participants In accordance with the policies of Save the Children organization in Egypt.

  • Small financial funds will be made available for the most unique, sustainable, and high-impact ideas.

The main outputs of Youth Innovation lab

  • Developing proposed solutions through a deeper analysis of problems, beneficiaries, scope of work, testing solutions and suggested ideas.

  • An opportunity for communication and networking among youth groups based on finding solutions to the issue of climate change especially the management of natural resources and water scarcity in Egypt.

Participation criteria

  • We are looking for youth groups that have an idea that directly serves water scarcity and water resource management in Egypt.

  • Teams must show that they take customized steps and actions towards their project and idea and support it through research and evidence.

  • Priority in 2023 will be given to youth groups from the governorates of Alexandria, the northern coast, and the Delta.

  • Participating teams should not have more than 3 to 6 members; If they are more than that, they must choose the representatives who have the most Match with the following character:

    • Team representatives must be between 18 and 30 years old.

    • Team representatives should be active decision makers in their project. That is, are able to make clear decisions about the direction of the project, which may include modifications to the idea or procedures.

    • Willing and able to share knowledge gained from the program with other team members.

    • Participating teams should preferably have a variety of experiences or backgrounds and interests (technical and administrative) in order to better serve the needs of the proposed idea for the project.

  • All team representatives are obliged to attend the entire training programme, which is organized as follows:

    • residential training camp in Alexandria from 20 to 24 October 2023

    • Online pair-based mentoring between mentors and each team, for 5 weeks from October 30 to December 4, 2023.

    • Final competition to present projects on the 8th or 9th of December 2023

Save the Children encourages emerging youth groups to apply even if there is not yet a formal registration form available Commitment to community participation and action to meet the challenge of climate change in terms of water scarcity and water resources management. Save the Children encourages diversity in the composition of the participating youth groups in terms of gender, nationality or otherwise that.

Registration

  • First, the youth group carefully fills out the registration form as shown below. required of each team only one application , which will include information about the participants and identify a representative for each group to communicate. Applications are accepted no later than September 17, 2023.

  • Secondly, the participants in the training program will be selected according to the proposals presented, to provide Opportunities for diversity of ideas. Prospective candidates will be contacted to schedule a short online interview With the participating team during the month of September 2023, the dates of the training camp will be confirmed in Alexandria, as appropriate for the participants.

Details of the registration form

We strongly advise you to prepare your answers beforehand and then use this form to transcribe and submit your answers. The form consists of three Sections for collecting basic information from the participating youth groups:

1. The first section focuses on getting to know you.

  • The name of the youth group.

  • Data of the person in charge of communication on behalf of the group.

2. The second section deals with the idea that you wish to present in (Youth Innovation lab).

  • The name of the proposed project.

  • When did you start working on the project?

  • Is the project officially registered?

  • Does your project directly address the problems of water resource management and water scarcity in Egypt?

  • What is the climate problem that your project addresses and its relationship to water scarcity and water resources management in Egypt? (maximum 500 words)

  • Describe your project in detail. (maximum 500 words)

  • Identify the beneficiaries of this project. (maximum 200 words)

  • Share research facts that support your project idea or clarify the problem you are working on. (maximum 750 words); You can add links of resources or any files that support your project.)

3. The third section is dedicated to providing details about the team proposed to participate.

  • What is the total number of members working in the project?

  • Please provide us with the details of the members (from 3 to 6) who will participate in the training program. (Full names, email, phone numbers, ages, and provinces)

  • Does any of the team members need help or support in order to participate in any of the online activities? if it was the answer is yes, please specify the names and support required?

  • Are all team members able to fully commit to the entire program activities described?

  • Introduce in a short brief the experiences of all the participants/candidates for the (Youth Innovation lab) training program. (Maximum 500 words)

  • Define briefly the roles and contributions of all team members to better support the project. (maximum 500 words)

Selection criteria

  • First, the participation criteria outlined above must apply in terms of age, geographic scope, and challenge. climate (on water resources and scarcity**), and commit to the entire training programme.

  • Selection is then made by giving priority to the most unique ideas (that is, not already repeated in various volunteer activities or community projects), and the most effective way to solve the problem at hand (i.e. context-related, whether coastal, rural or civil or otherwise), and affecting the targeted level (if it is social or specific to work with certain parties), And the most capable of expansion and escalation (that is, it can extend either in the geographical scope or the target groups or other), and most sustainable (i.e., have a perception of success and continuity in financial terms).
