AI FERTIGATION CHALLENGE

Description

How can we apply AI techniques to build a composting unit?

Would you like to use your skills to help farmers and landowners in Egypt? In collaboration with the SwitchMed initiative  - Switchers Eco-Innovation Program , we are looking for talented engineers to build an artificial intelligence model of a fertilization unit implemented on cultivated land to help farmers improve their techniques and save effort.

Submit your innovative idea for manufacturing a composting unit for a chance to win 1,250 euros, 3,750 euros of quick support services, and the chance to win a voucher worth 10,000 euros from services for the best idea presented by the SwitchMed initiative

Project background

The SwitchMed initiative aims to achieve a circular economy in the southern Mediterranean by changing how goods and services are produced and consumed. Accordingly, the program provides tools and services directly to the private sector, supports the enabling policy environment, and facilitates information exchange between partners and key stakeholders.

Agriculture has been the main driving force in Egypt for decades. With approximately 12% of the country's GDP coming from the agriculture sector, Egypt's food self-sufficiency rate stands at 88%. It also exports some of its agricultural production.

Recent technological leaps are improving agricultural commodities in terms of quality and quantity, but localizing these technologies represents a major challenge. Most of the technologies are foreign, making them inaccessible to a large segment of local farmers. Given their difficult financial circumstances, farmers and landowners are looking for local alternatives with high efficiency and reliable results to improve their techniques.

The Challenge

The challenge is to design an automated artificial intelligence-powered fertilization and irrigation system for  ReNile  that can make the appropriate decision regarding the irrigation schedule.

Input

  • Air temperature

  • Air humidity

  • rainfall

  • The amount of radiation

  • Wind speed

  • Wind direction

  • Pressure-gauge

  • Water temperature

  • Water pH

  • Electrical conductivity of water

  • Soil temperature

  • Soil moisture

  • Soil pH

  • Soil electrical conductivity

  • The amount of nitrogen in the soil

  • The amount of phosphorus in the soil

  • The amount of potassium in the soil

  • Plant type

  • Plant age

  • Plant environment

Production:

How much fertilizer should be put into irrigation water? How much water is needed to irrigate plants?

The proposed solution should demonstrate the following methodology:

  • Describe your idea, explaining your approach

  • Clearly define your expected budget and implementation timeline (if you choose a futures contract)

  • Ensure compatibility and adjustability

  • Providing certified data for various crops.

  • Low cost approach and easily maintained.

  • Determine the success metrics for your idea and why you chose your approach

How to participate?

  1. Submit  the completed application form  before the deadline of 9/11/2023 at 11:59 (GMT+2). This idea should include a detailed proposal uploaded explaining how the specified criteria will be met.

  2. Shortlisted candidates will be selected based on the innovativeness of their solutions and will be invited to present their ideas in a competitive online pitch.

  3. The best winning idea will be selected by a SwitchMed representative.

Bonus and conditions

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to present their ideas in an online competitive pitch attended by SwitchMed representatives and the Yomken.com team.

A total reward of €1,250 for a quick support service worth €3,750 and a chance to win a voucher worth €10,000 in services provided by the SwitchMed initiative - the Switchers Eco-Innovation program and the Yomken.com platform for the best winning solution.

According to the terms and conditions of Yomken.com, in the event that intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator must include the minimum details required to judge the validity of the technology and the feasibility of the solution, without full technical specifications.
